Iron Sharpens Iron,
the Brotherhood Ministry of
Beargrass Missionary Baptist Church

Purpose is defined as, the reason for which something exists or is done, made, used, etc. Therefore, by definition, Iron Sharpens Iron’s Purpose – the “reason we exist” – is to bring pleasure to God, for the Word of God states, in Rev. 4:11, “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for Thou hast created all things, and for Thy pleasure they are and were created.” For His pleasure all things were created. The purpose of ALL things is to bring pleasure of God. We were created to bring pleasure to God.

But a more relevant question is, “how do we achieve our purpose? How does God receive “glory and honour” from Iron Sharpens Iron? When we do His will. As we minister to the sick, we achieve our purpose. As we provide a Godly, masculine example to the children, members and friends of Beargrass Missionary Baptist Church, we achieve our purpose. Men fellowshipping with men; men taking their proper places in the church, leading by example – this is how we achieve our purpose.

Here at Beargrass, Iron Sharpens Iron also exists to ensure that this church will continuously have a lasting ministry consisting of Godly men, doing their best to “earnestly contend for the faith” (Jude 3). Too many men have abdicated their rightful roles in the church of Jesus Christ, leaving only women and children to carry the load. Women have been left to do what God intended for men to do. Iron Sharpens Iron strives to fill this void here at Beargrass.

Our motto is Prov. 27:17 – “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” Men strengthening men. Men helping men. Men edifying, encouraging men, praying together, singing together, laughing together as one. This is how we bring glory and pleasure to God. This is the purpose of Iron Sharpens Iron.
